Rivercity Inclusion Society is looking for a temporary full-time Residential Care Worker for our Simms Group Home! The Residential Care Worker works as a member of a team responsible for assisting the residents with activities of daily living and to provide opportunities to promote independence and self-esteem. The Residential Care Worker is responsible for introducing and implementing ideas and activities that will increase the resident’s independence and social skills.

The position is 38.5 hours per week. Wednesday – Sunday, rotating week of: 7am-3pm, week of 3-11pm, week of 3-9.30pm. Until return of incumbent.

Requirements

  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License (Class 4 Driver’s License will be required upon 90 days of hire)
  • First Aid and CPR (2 day course)
  • Negative TB test results
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Food Safe Certification
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • Must be willing to swim on a regular basis

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills

  • Human Services Worker Certification or certification in a relevant field.
  • Three to six months prior job experience (paid or volunteer), working with people with developmental disabilities.
  • Previous experience working with people with dual diagnosis and challenging and/or aggressive behaviour an asset.
  • Must display a proven ability to calmly and effectively work with challenging and aggressive behaviour.
  • Must display an understanding and ability to work with individuals with mental disability and mental illness.
  • Must display enthusiasm and energy and be a contributing team member.
  • Must be physically fit, willing and able to meet all physical demands of the job.
