Campbell River and District Association for Community Living

"Helping people help themselves"

RIVERCITY INCLUSION... the story behind our new name!

Campbell River & District Association for Community Living celebrated its 60th Birthday last October, 2021.  We are very proud to be a longstanding charitable organization in this wonderful community, where our mission is to provide and advocate for local services to support people of all ages with special needs, their families and their caregivers.  Helping People Help Themselves

We learned that many in our community felt that our name, “Campbell River and District Association for Community Living” or “CRADACL”, was too long and didn’t highlight our cornerstones of RESPECT, FAIRNESS, BELONGING and INCLUSION.  So earlier this spring we asked our Staff and Clients to give us their ideas for a new name, or to keep the one we had.  And what a response we received - over 90 suggestions!!  Using criteria established by our Branding Committee, we narrowed down the list, and then asked our Staff, Clients, Caregivers, & Board of Directors to vote on their Top 3 choices.  Since Inclusion is what we do, we then presented the Top 3 Finalists to the community of Campbell River via a competition in The Campbell River Mirror newspaper and asked everyone to vote on their favorite.  CRADACL is an integral part of Campbell River, and it was important to us that everyone was included in this big decision.

The winning name (by a large margin) was selected at the end of August, but was kept a secret until it was presented to our Board of Directors & Membership to be voted on at our Annual General Meeting in September.  It was then announced to clients and staff via surprise envelopes the following morning which were hand delivered to all of our programs!
