Nature of Position

The Life Skills Worker provides a variety of support services including life skills development, problem solving, and community based recreational, social and educational activities to all tenants at Palmer Place. The role also helps to maintain a clean living environment throughout the Palmer Place property. The Life Skills Worker promotes a common vision regards housing philosophy and community.

This temporary position works Wednesdays through Saturdays, from 9am-3pm.

Duties

  • Develops opportunities to engage tenants in day-to-day routines
  • Coordinates the availability and accessibility of necessary facilities, equipment and materials needed for activities
  • Provides life skill and social and interpersonal skill-building references and models appropriate behaviour
  • Accompanies or transports clients to and from activities as needed
  • Performs minor gardening tasks such as weeding, watering plants
  • Completes light housekeeping duties such as vacuuming, dusting, emptying garbage, cleaning and laundry

Requirements

  • Class 5 Driver’s License
  • First Aid
  • Food Safe
  • Consent to criminal record check
  • Negative TB test results

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills

  • Certificate in human services, or equivalent
  • One year of experience working with vulnerable populations
