ACCREDITATION

Rivercity Inclusion receives funding from four main funders to operate our programs: Island Health, BC Housing, Community Living British Columbia (CLBC), and Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). To continue receiving funding, we must conform to the highest possible quality standards throughout our Society.

CARF International is an independent, non-profit accreditor of health and human services. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, this is more often referred to as CARF . The mission of CARF is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process and continuous improvement services that center on enhancing the lives of persons served. CARF believes all people have the right to be treated equitably with dignity, respect and inclusion; should have access to needed services that achieve optimum outcomes; and should be empowered to exercise informed choice.

The accreditation survey process begins with CARF sending surveyors to our Society, who conduct an on-site consultative approach in reviewing our operations and service delivery. The survey includes interviews with staff, person served, and stakeholders, observations of practices, and a thorough review of documentation. Through this process, surveyors will make suggestions on ways we can improve our operations and service delivery.  After completing this in-depth survey review, CARF evaluates our level of demonstrated conformance against their standards and provides a report that identifies our strengths and areas for improvement.

Rivercity Inclusion received its first three-year accreditation in 2006.  We continue to undergo surveys every three years. Accreditation has provided Rivercity Inclusion with a standard for continuous quality improvement, and we welcome the accreditation process to further our knowledge and commitment to exemplary service!
