Nature of Position

Job Overview

Ironwood Place is a 54-unit senior’s assisted living community. This program provides a range of hospitality and care services that promote independence, choice and dignity to the seniors who live there. Beginning this Fall, Rivercity Inclusion will assume responsibility for delivering nursing and care services at Ironwood Place. This is a significant milestone for our organization and reflects Rivercity Inclusion’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality services to the people we support.

We are starting to build the care team with our search for a Registered Nurse with experience in assisted living or community care. The role will ensure the delivery of client centered care to achieve and maintain maximum health. Working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse leads the care team at the Ironwood Place.

The schedule for this position will be 35 hours per week, working Monday through Friday from 9am – 4pm.

Responsibilities

  • Performs nursing assessments and works in collaboration with residents and Island Health Case Manager to develop a plan of care
  • Discusses, plans and evaluates nursing care and therapies of residents living at Ironwood Place assisted living
  • Performs nursing care to clients such as administering prescribed medications and treatments, as well as observing, recording and reporting symptoms and changes in patient conditions
  • Trains LPNs to carry out individual health care procedures such as medication administration, in accordance with relevant regulations and established internal procedures.
  • Facilitate changes in health behaviours through methods such as utilizing wellness promotion and self-management principles, behavioural change theories/strategies and adult learning theories to support optimal health, informed decision-making
  • Provides care and treatment within RN scope, role, function, and controls on practice
  • Contributes to the development and revision of standards of care, policies and procedures at Ironwood Place
  • Documents assessments, records of observation, care provision and client responses according to professional standards and facility guidelines which may include computerized records and databases
  • Assesses daily staffing needs based on planned patient activity and acuity and ensures appropriate resources are available to meet patient care requirements

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved Nursing Program
  • Current Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant
  • Minimum of one year’s experience working in home and community care, or assisted living
  • Negative TB test results
  • Consent to criminal record check

  • Ability to be organized, flexible and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to act in an appropriate, professional manner at all times
  • Ability to deal effectively and calmly in crisis situations
  • Strong oral and written communication
